PETER C. PARAS

New Jersey Divorce & Family Law Attorney

Partner

Peter C. Paras has devoted his entire professional life to the exclusive practice of family law since his graduation from law school in 1976.  He has been guided by three principles throughout his career: each client’s needs are unique, communication between lawyer and client is essential, and there is no substitute for preparation.

Mr. Paras is known as a skilled trial lawyer by his peers.  His preparation and trial experience are often the reasons he can obtain favorable settlements for his client without going to trial. He has written articles for various legal publications over the years, including “Custody to Non-Parents: An Overview of the Law and Procedures”, which appeared in the August 2009 edition of “New Jersey Lawyer Magazine.” Other topics about which Mr. Paras has written are cross-examination, palimony, sexual abuse of children, equitable distribution of assets and liabilities, and support.

Mr. Paras is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, and for many years served on its Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Monmouth Bar Association and has served on its Family Law Committee for more than twenty years. He is proud that in 1988 he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, perhaps the most prestigious of all Family Lawyer organizations. He has been selected as a “Super Lawyer” by the annual peer poll conducted by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, every year since its inception in 2005. Selection criteria for Thompson Reuters Super Lawyers is available here.  In 2015, 2016 and 2017 Mr. Paras was listed in “Best Lawyers in America” by U.S. News and World Reports.

Since 2001 he has been listed in the “Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers” by Martindale-Hubbell, the oldest and perhaps the most respected peer review publication.

In 2003, Mr. Paras was selected as Monmouth County Family Lawyer of the Year by the Monmouth Bar Association.

Mr. Paras holds the highest AV peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which signifies the “Highest Rating in Legal Ability and Ethical Standards”.

He has lectured for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and The American Trial Lawyers Association. In 2011 he enthusiastically accepted an invitation to serve as a Master in the Ocean-Monmouth Family Law Inn of Court, an organization for the exchange of ideas about legal issues and the mentoring and education of younger family lawyers.

In December 2016 Mr. Paras was invited to join the Matrimonial Lawyers Alliance, a prestigious organization of family lawyers, whose membership is limited to fifty.
